Forum Forum-rights debate Journalists human

On September 28th took place in the Law School forum entitled: "The current situation of human rights of journalists." Before an audience that was slowly draining his ability until there was not one seat available, the speakers did honor to the title chosen from different perspectives as we showed attendees a broad overview of what today and in this country, means the profession of journalism for its practitioners.

The first to speak was Iñigo Prieto, member of the National Centre for Social Communication (CENCOS), who spoke in precisely the activity that the organization does in the context of attacks and bombings that many journalists have suffered especially in so far this administration. Murders, disappearances, threats and theft are among the daily aggressions to which they are exposed and that Mexican journalists in 2009, totaled the amount of 244 according to figures from the organization. "It determines the flow of information and therefore affects society, "said Inigo, who also mentioned that the purpose of research and monitoring of the attacks is the realization of actions (reports, bills and pervasiveness of the problem in general) tend to improve the gloomy outlook hanging over the journalists' union.
Subsequently, the sensitivity of the auditorium was tested when Erika Ramirez (Contralínea reporter ) reported the terrible attack that a humanitarian convoy, of which she was part-experienced in the community of San Juan Copala and which had tragic result of the death of two of its companions. Not that the attendees were unaware of the events are narrated, but experience firsthand one of the survivors had the effect of transmitting more intimate and emotional distress and fear Erika lived behind what happened, is was a witness need to know the true extent of the problem.

Then came the turn of Fernando Hernandez, who from the microphones of Radio UNAM conducts journalism. He spoke of the hardships that face labor workers in the media, low wages, longer unreasonable working hours, lack of social security benefits and job instability are some of the problems that has to deal with the bulk of the media (and general workers) when trying to exercise their profession. And if the above add the frequent acts of self-censorship brought about by the enormous disadvantage that the worker is a journalist against his employer, we find a picture nothing encouraging from the point of view beyond employment, "it is a situation precarious, "said Fernando, and yes it is.
The role of "patterns" in the media also spoke Luis Javier Garrido, who minutes after it was made known that "compelling reasons" could not attend the event made discreet appearance, taking over for the couple of the other speakers. The manipulation of the mass media and its complicity with a government that reflects more than particularis interests were the main issues addressed by the writer for La Jornada and experienced professor Law School, who ended its involvement with a succinct statement: "In Mexico there is no press freedom."

Finally, corresponded the turn of the teacher also Mylai Matamoros Burgos, who used a pair of concepts to describe the role the state plays (or does not play) in the context of protecting the fundamental rights of journalists. The "misuse of power" on the one hand, understood as the use of power for evil purposes, and the "legal simulation", ie, the expression of a desire that the State never actually assume, are the characteristics of a power audience that seems to express a commitment to go unpunished violations of human rights of journalists and why not? of the population in general. Upon written
Question and answer session ended the forum organized by students of the Faculty of Law, who along with fellow Arts, Communication Sciences and members of social organizations, shared the interest to attend the event and perform a necessary exercise for better understand our environment and find solutions to some of the problems that plague this shattered reality.

The dispute over control of natural resources important

in recent years has exacerbated the precariousness of human life, the result of capitalism, why natural resources should be a prime area for those who fight this system of hunger and exploitation. The environmental crisis so feared by many is present every day. Is essential to understand that environmental issues are not frivolous or unrelated to the social, economic and political, as the planet is increasingly haggard from exhaustion to which it submits the capitalist system.

Most movement led by civil society organizations that are resistant to the over-exploitation, are tragically, organizations that come together with the economic elite, becoming the subject of the devastation of natural resources in an area of consumption. These associations play the idea that you can reverse the situation of the entire planet if a person makes small actions to change their environment and get great results, what is ignored is that not only individuals are guilty of the catastrophic situation that is brewing in the world, are big business with its power of destruction that are destroying nature, and not are responsible for their actions. Paradoxically, these corporations have the backing of institutions of different states and "environmental organizations", which paid large sums of money for his discretion and to maintain impunity.

In the case of Mexico, we have examples of opposition to the destruction of the environment. There are hundreds of fights people have undertaken to defend their land and heritage community, have great battles for their right to survive on their own cultural identity and natural resources by taking only the essentials to meet your needs.

The most mentioned recently is undoubtedly that of San Salvador Atenco, a town located in the State of Mexico, near the Federal District, which in 2001 was expropriated more than 5 000 hectares In order to build an international airport. The construction of this work responds to the strategic place where Atenco is located, since it is located in an ideal area where is located the only plain near Mexico City, about 40 kilometers from the capital, surrounded by the mountainous area of the State of Mexico and near Lake Texcoco.
Thanks to the struggle that held the People's Front in Defense of the Land (FPDT) was achieved that the administration of Vicente Fox did not continue with the project, which involved more than 40 thousand inhabitants of the region, neighboring municipalities, and that have serious adverse public health and environmental impact.

As is typical of institutions divorced from the general interest, the federal executive did not take into account affected villagers. The unrest also took the legal route, 11 appeals were lodged against the expropriation. That reason attending farmers demonstrated in the decisions to suspend the acts of authority, as granted by the Second Collegiate Administrative Tribunal by the defense that brought the ejido Santiago Cuautlalpan (located in Texcoco) through of the Agrarian. Also, three municipalities and the Federal District promoted constitutional controversies before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. Recall the cases of invasion of powers provided for in article 103 of the Constitution and Article 1 of Section II of the Law of Amparo. Municipalities plaintiffs alleged a violation of Article 115 Section V paragraphs a and d of the Constitution with regard to their participation in the administration and approval of urban development plans, in addition to its monitoring land use.

Another example that we can refer takes place in Oaxaca, which is an important benchmark in the struggle against arbitrary and despotic Mexican state where they have gestated movements led by indigenous people, who struggle for their right to self determination. The municipality
Zacatepec, Mixe territory, they fought a battle for control of land, because it granted a concession to a Canadian mining company operating more than 4 000 hectares concession that the Mixe people strongly opposed and whose iron battle that the company managed to desist from his intention in 2009.

Despite the difficulty of the struggle, the victories have won, as we noted above, unfortunately the specter of death and injustice all round genuine and free movement in their walk.
Our fellow defenders of the earth are imprisoned and killed for their subversive attitude to the interests inhuman have a clear example of Beatriz Honey, environmentalist and human rights defender, was killed on his way to the Autonomous Municipality of San Juan Copala in a humanitarian convoy. Abarca partner or opponent of the mining project of the Canadian company Blackfire Chicomuselo in the municipality, Chiapas, killed a year ago.

In conclusion, the misfortunes that fall upon our people struggling for land does not make them stop, they are encouraged to continue the battle, anger makes them lose their fear of demanding what is rightfully theirs. 1
Our response to the excessive harvesting of natural resources by the Machinery capitalist, is the resistance of the people, defending the ejido and community centers, the ownership of their lands and exploitation of them by the community, not the individual. Replies to go on the offensive by control of natural resources are the nation, ours and not "them", which when finished with all leave, leaving only destruction and misery.
Natural resources are a source of life, not money supply.

1 As an example of international law we have the ILO Convention 169, which is the product of processes Social triggered by people, not the "goodwill" of the rulers.
